REVIEW: Ecotools Pure Complexion Sponge - Sensitive Skin

Hi everyone! This post is going to be a review on Ecotools' Pure Complexion Sponge for Sensitive Skin. This sponge is a Konjac cleansing sponge that is supposed to help you remove impurities from your face. Here is what Ecotools advertises on their website:

"One of the newest trends in skincare is Konjac and our NEW unique Pure Complexion Facial Sponge is handmade with 100 percent natural ingredients, including Konjac* vegetable fiber! Designed for a better clean that reveals smooth, refreshed skin, our sponge is dermatologist tested for use both morning and night! Use it to wash away dirt, oil and makeup, leaving skin glowing!

*Konjac is a highly renewable root plant indigenous to Asia. It’s traditionally used as a detoxifying dietary staple and as a naturally exfoliating sponge for delicate skin by the Japanese.

Our packaging is 100% tree-free paper and 100% recyclable made from 80% bamboo and 20% cotton fiber."

First, I have never used a Konjac sponge before. Second, I love how environmentally friendly this product is, and third, this is a really great sponge!

When you take the sponge out of it's box, it's basically a really rough and hard loofah like below:

However, you want to dampen it in water and squeeze the excess water out. Just like a Beauty Blender, the sponge will expand and soften. I was actually quite surprised when I first used this sponge because I thought that it would be really rough against my sensitive skin since it was so hard prior to wetting it. I'm glad that wasn't the case. The sponge can be quite squishy.

The sponge is very flexible an soft once it expands as demonstrated below.

I've tried using this to wash my face several ways. The first method is massaging my cleanser (I use the Yes to -  Yes to Cucumbers Cleansing Milk) onto my face, and then going in with the sponge to gently exfoliate my face. The second method is putting a pump of my cleanser onto the dampened sponge. Lastly, I sometimes just use this sponge on my face without any cleansing product.

I really enjoy the cleanser that I am currently using because it makes my face feel clean and smooth, but with the sponge my face feels even cleaner without leaving my face dry and tight. It's a good tool to give yourself a massage while gently exfoliating your skin. Sometimes I feel as if my skin isn't clean enough whenever I use my cleanser and soap, but with this sponge I feel as if it's actually working to get impurities like dirt and oil off my face. Once you are done using it, the sponge dries back up again and becomes hard, similar to the Beauty Blender. I used to use a rubber brush from Daiso Japan to help me cleanse my skin, but this is a much better alternative because it doesn't rub and pull my skin. This is a great cleanser that I recommend if you need a little something extra to help you get a deeper cleanse for your skin.  The best part about this product? It's only $6!

REVIEW: Wet N Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel

Wet N Wild released a new nail polish line called the 1 Step Wonder Gel several months ago, and I am quite impressed by these polishes. I have been a nail polish fanatic for a very long time, but I have not worn nail polish in a while due to issues of chipping and the lack of time to paint my nails thanks to graduate school. However, I stopped by a local Walgreens and see these thinking they were interesting because it's being advertised as a gel-like formula and texture with no UV light needed.

I enjoy getting gel nails once a while, but it is a pain in the butt to take them off, and it takes forever for my nails to regrow and heal. The Wet N Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel doesn't necessarily give you gel nail, but it gives your nails that gel-like texture and look. They retail for $4.99 each at the drugstore (I picked mine up at Walgreens and Rite Aid), and the colors I got were: Stay Classy (mauve), Peri-wink-ie of an Eye (periwinkle), and Crime of Passion (bright red).

The formula of these polishes are nice and thick enough to just wear one layer. However, if you want your nails to look and feel more like gel nails then I would recommend wearing two layers instead. The dry time for this formula is quite fast. I think these dry faster than the many OPI and essie polishes that I own.

Wet N Wild claims that these can last up to two weeks. They haven't lasted me up until two weeks, but they have stayed put on my nails without chipping for 6-7 days without a top coat which I think is quite impressive. My nail polish normally chips within 2-3 days even with a top coat, no joke, so these polishes are quite good!

I highly recommend trying out these polishes whenever you get the chance. Wet N Wild is already an affordable brand, but drugstores always have sales like BOGO half which makes the prices even better. Plus, there are 18 shades you can choose from! :) Thumbs up for this polish line!

SWATCHES: Cargo Cosmetics Venice Enchantment Eye Shadow Palette

I recently purchased the Cargo Venice Enchantment eye shadow palette that was released for the holiday season last year for $13 at Burlington Coat Factory. Yes, I said $13! This eye shadow palette retails for $34 (valued at $102), and is still available online through the Kohl's website. If you live near a Burlington, it would not hurt to try hunting for the palette, but I do warn though that availability may vary by store and region.

This palette is supposed to capture the "richness and romance of Venice" which is probably why almost all of the shadows are shimmer or sheen. There are 12 eye shadows, one dual-ended eye shadow brush, and a black pencil eyeliner.

Top row (l to r): canal, magic, carnival, murano, gondola, mask
Bottom row (l to r): gilded, rialto, lido, lagoon, bridge, palazzo

All the swatches below are swatched over primer. They are all satin/frost finishes except for two: Rialto and carnival are matte with glitter.

They swatch beautifully dry too, but I always wear eye shadow primer, so I thought I would show you how they would appear over primer.

Here's a little close up look at the top row: canal, magic, carnival, murano, gondola, mask

Bottom row: gilded, rialto, lido, lagoon, bridge, palazzo

I just bought this yesterday, and I've only worn it once (today), but so far I am liking it. My favorite shades are murano and lido. I did have to reach for other palettes in order to get matte colors to blend these shadows out, since this palette didn't have any mattes. It's not a big deal to me since this palette was only $13. Would I pay $34 full price for this palette? Probably not since I own shadows that are very similar to this palette. I like the color choices in the palette though, and it really does ring out to me as "romantic." Nice palette so far though! :)

REVIEW: L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion in W3

The L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion ($17) is one of the most talked about foundations from the drugstore that has just hit the market. I believe L'Oreal and Physicians Formula are the first U.S. drugstores to produce the Korean-inspired cushion foundations. I am sure more drugstores will follow the trend here in the U.S. Target carries the Korean brand, Laneige, in-store and online where the cushion foundation has been available to American consumer for several years. I feel as if everything big in Korea takes 2-5 years to make it big in the U.S. (e.g. BB cream, CC cream, sheet masks, etc.). This is a little off topic, but you know the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer that she just released? Well, that type of brow pencil has been around for a long while in Korea too! :)

When I saw that L'Oreal released a cushion foundation, I knew I had to try it out! I picked the product up from my local Rite Aid, and I've been trying it out for about a month, so I have a good opinion on it.

The Lumi cushion comes in 12 different shades in neutral, warm and cool tone shades. My closest shade is W3. The compact itself is sleek and compact. You can easily put this in your purse. On the back side of the compact are instructions on how to apply the foundation.

The compact does come with a blue circular sponge as seen on the back of the compact, but I threw mine out because it doesn't apply very well. I enjoy using this with my Real Techniques Complexion Sponge.

There's a nice sized mirror in the compact. You'll find the foundation inside once you open the white flap/lid. Unfortunately the amount of product in here is only .51 oz., so you're getting about half the amount of foundation that you would normally get in standardized foundations.

This is why it's called a "cushion" foundation. The foundation is embedded throughout this cushion-like fabric.

This is a little embarrassing, but here is my face  without any makeup. You can see I have sunspots, acne scars and uneven skin tone.

With the foundation, I was able to cover up most of my acne scars. My skin did look luminous and fresh as described by L'Oreal. This foundation is light to medium coverage. You can definitely build it up.

Here is a photo of me wearing full makeup where I'm showing off my Kat Von D Lolita II lips (haha). My skin actually looks very smooth here.

This photo below was when I did a FOTD where I am also wearing the foundation. It does a great job with coverage.

Overall, I have really enjoyed this foundation. I tend to have dull and dry/normal skin during most times of the year (fall, winter, and spring), so this foundation gives my face a luminous glow, not oily. I have worn this with and without a powder, and both methods doesn't affect the staying power of this foundation. It stays put! My sister has oily/combination skin, but she told me she was able to use this, and that it worked well for her at least for the cold season. Once California hits warmer temperatures, I am unsure though as to whether both my sister and I would be able to wear this foundation. It nevertheless is a really beautiful foundation.
