Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks Ripoff?

I'm sadly disappointed today in my discovery that there's barely any product in the new Gerard Cosmetics (GC) Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks that I've just purchased! How is that even possible?! These are pretty darn good liquid lipsticks too, but where is the product at?!

Being the couponer that I am, and the student that I will always be, I wanted to know, I wanted to learn, what the hell was going on?! So I did some math and compared the price per mL of product for GC to my favorite liquid lipsticks, Kat Von D's (KVD) Everlasting Liquid Lipstick.

Look to see what I discovered below.

They both retail for $20, but GC has 1.75 mL of product and KVD has 6.6 mL! That's already a huge difference, but I broke the prices down per mL and GC charges $11.42 for 1 mL of product while KVD charges $3.03 mL. When I divided the prices, I found that GC was 3.76 times more expensive than KVD.

Now, some may argue that GC always provide discount codes, but even at 50% off, which was their most recent and notable sale, their liquid lipstick was still more expensive or 1.89 times more expensive than KVD's.

I looked into other brands too that sold liquid lipsticks, and found that prices per mL varied greatly. That's normal, but I was just so shocked to see how small the GC Liquid Lipsticks tubes were! I thought it wasn't a big deal until I was trying to grab some product out, and I was able to see the applicator clearly in the mattified tube. These really are great lipsticks, but I wish GC would give us more product for the price we are paying. Again, even with a discount as high as 50% off, it's still a high price for the amount of product consumers are getting. I looked into Stila's liquid lipsticks too, and they charge $8 per mL, which is also quite high in my opinion.

I did more searching into other brands, and found that the best value based on price per mL are as follows: Colourpop ($0.20/mL), KVD ($3.02/mL), Jeffree Star ($3.20/mL).

Whew. That was a lot of numbers, but I hope this brought you some insight!

FOTD: Bringing Back the LORAC!

Good evening everyone! It's late Saturday here in Orange County, and tomorrow I am headed to the mountains! I am so excited to see snow! I am planning to go au naturale tomorrow, but we'll see if that will happen, since a 5:30AM wake-up call is a tad bit too early!

Today was a good makeup day for me though! I experimented a little with my eye shadow, and I think it turned out better than I had expected since I suck at applying eye shadow! I brought out my LORAC Pro Palette, and yet again, I fell in love. It's been such a long time since I've last used the palette. I've accumulated many shadow palettes and other makeup products over the year that I tend to forget and eventually neglect products that I already own, which is a big no-no. I have definitely minimized my makeup collection over the past several months, so hopefully I'll be able to use more of what I already enjoy using! By no means is my makeup collection small, but it is smaller than what I had before. :P

I usually go for a simple look, and that's what I went for today!

Here's a closeup of my makeup. On my eyes I am wearing the LORAC Pro Palette using the following shades:
- Garnet (lid)
- Nude (inner corner)
- Mauve (crease)
- Sable (outer v)
- Cream (brow)

What do you think of my look from earlier today? :)

REVIEW: Voluspa Candle in "Casa Pacifica"

One of my good friends from undergrad gifted me a beautiful candle for my birthday last month, and I cannot get enough of it! She gave me a Voluspa candle in "Casa Pacifica," and it smells amazing!

The Voluspa website describes this scent as:

The scent reminds me of summer, and I am craving for that warmer season just a little bit with this cold winter we've been experiencing! I am in love with "Casa Pacifica," and I am trying my best not to burn through this little tin too quickly, but that's what a candle is for. Surprisingly this little candle in this gorgeous tin can can burn up to 25 hours which is fairly a long time. The height of the candle is 2 inches, and weighs 4 ounces. Don't let the small size of this candle fool you because it will travel throughout your home; It will be noticeable.  I feel so renewed, refresh and calm whenever I burn this candle.

This little tin candle retails between $8-$10 depending on where you purchase it, which in my opinion is pretty pricey. It's more of a luxurious candle, especially in packaging, and unfortunately price. The scent also comes in other sizes, but of course, with bigger price tags. This brand is also sold at Nordstrom online and in-store. Despite the candles being on the pricey side, I am so tempted to try other scents they have since they sound nothing that I have ever heard before such as "Saijo Persimmon." A candle that smells like persimmon?! How unique is that? I highly recommend this candle!

HOLY GRAIL: Physicians Formula Eye-Booster 2-in-1

I am thinking about doing a post dedicated to my holy grail beauty items, but an item that I've talked about constantly on my blog and on my YT channel has been the Physician's Formula 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum ($11), so why not review it now? I went to my local Rite Aid several days ago to pick up two more as backups since they were BOGO free. Exactly what does this eyeliner claim?

Physician Formula (PF) claims that this will make lashes instantly appear luscious, glamorous and dramatic, and that 100% test subjects who tried this eyeliner out saw their lashes enhanced instantly. Whatever it means by "enhanced" can be up to each of our interpretation, but for my opinion, I love this liner because it is dark, long-lasting, an it does not bother my sensitive eyes.

This eyeliner is formulated with a serum that is supposed to help lashes grow. I have short stubby lashes that seem to have grown faster and longer over the past 2-3 years which could be attributed to this liner, though I am not 100% sure. PF also claims that the product is water resistant and smudge proof. I have worn this eyeliner for years, and I can say that it is waterproof and smudge proof, however, if it were to rain and you rubbed your eyes, the eyeliner will smudge and disappear off your lids.

PH additionally claims that you can wear this liner for 24 hours. I have never tested this claim because well, I don't wear eyeliner for 24 hours, but it does last throughout a normal 8-12 hour day for me.

One of these liners will last you for a very long time. I normally go through one every 6-8 months give or take. It's like a magic pen that keeps on giving!

What I like most about this liner is the tip. The tip is a calligraphy style pen instead of those felt tip liners that dry up fast. I feel that felt tip liners can really drag on your skin and eyes, while calligraphy style liners glide easier on the skin, which allows for better accuracy.

A pro to this liner like I have stated before is how dark the liner is. I believe this liner comes in three shades: Ultra black (the one I wear), very black, and brown. I always go for ultra black, and it is really black! Take a look below. You can see that I've drawn different strokes and squiggly lines. This is a great liner for doing a winged look or any kind of look. Do note that the liner I used for the swatches is an older one that I've opened towards the beginning of autumn. It's still very black even after all these months!

$11 for a liquid eyeliner from the drugstore can be pricey, but this one is totally worth it! It is still cheaper than the ones you find at Sephora, and this is probably a better liner than most high end liners. In any photos that I am in that you see on my blog, YT channel or IG, I am wearing this liner, unless otherwise stated. I highly recommend this liner! I recommend purchasing this from the drugstore, since there are always sales, so be sure to check those out. :)

Real Techniques & Ecotools BOGO FREE Deal!

There's a great deal going on right now at Ulta both in-store and online where most Real Techniques and Ecotool brushes are on sale for buy one get one free, or BOGO FREE! This is a great deal considering most of the time these brushes typically only go on sale for BOGO 50% off. The last time I saw a great deal like this was at Kohl's prior to Thanksgiving. This is a rare deal, so I would take advantage of the sale now! This sale will last until January 23, and I do believe you can mix and match Real Techniques and Ecotool brushes. The makeup brush cleaners are also part of this deal too, while most sets are not. Note that the free item will be the one of lesser value.

The best deal in my opinion? Four Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponges for $7.49 (before tax). That's approximately $1.87 per sponge! I love using these sponges to apply foundation, concealer and BB cream, and I've stopped purchasing the Beauty Blender, since these are great dupes. Normally one is sold for $6, but if you are able to find two duo packs, each duo pack will be $10.99, but with the deal, one of them is free. Even better is that you can the Ulta $3.50 off $10 coupon, so these two packs end up being $7.49! That's an amazing deal!

Happy savings! :)

REVIEW: Donkey Milk Skin Gel Mask Pack Aqua by Freeset

I have been using facial mask packs for a long time, and I have never used a gel mask, let alone, one that is donkey milk. Say what?! Exactly. That was my first impression too. I received the Donkey Milk Skin Gel Mask Pack Aqua by Freeset ($3) from Memebox for free when there was an order mishap. This mask contains donkey milk which contains vitamins A, B, D, C, and E as well as bio-polymers that is supposed help with aging. It is claimed that this mask will leave the skin hydrated and radiant.

So, here is how I look with the mask on:

Verdict: I found this mask very difficult to put on due to its gel-like texture. I recommend lying down on your bed or couch while wearing this mask because this mask does have the tendency to slowly slip off the face. Aside from that issue, I love how creamy the mask felt; It felt I was getting a nice facial treatment at the spa, but at home. There was no particular smell to the mask. I left it on for about 20 to 25 minutes until some parts of the mask started drying, and then I pulled it off.  I allowed for the rest of the milk to be absorbed by my skin. My skin felt very hydrated and smooth after use, and I would consider purchasing this product in the future. :)

You can purchase this on the Memebox website for $3.

Happy New Year! :)

Happy New Year everyone! I know we are one week into 2016, but it is still a brand new year! I have been neglecting my blog and also my YouTube channel for months, but one of my goals for this year is to get back on it with this blog at least. Despite being away from my blog for months, I am still in love with trying out new beauty and personal care products! I can't wait to get writing and posting again.
